High Blood Pressure Diet - More Important Than You Thought

Did you know that about one in every four Americans has high blood pressure? Heart attack, stroke, and heart disease are strongly linked to this condition. If you suffer from this condition, you should know that you can effectively help control it by utilizing a high blood pressure diet. You can help naturally lower your blood pressure as well as your risk for other conditions by eating certain foods and avoiding others.

One of the things you need to do when following a healthy high blood pressure diet is to exclude anything that could raise your blood pressure, cause more damage, or otherwise woresen the problem. Some of those things include alcohol, salt, fatty foods such as red meat and sugars. You can use salt and sugar substitutes to add to your food.

Foods that are high in potassium should be a part of your high blood pressure diet. They help to maintain a healthy blood pressure. Bananas, acorn squash, avocados, grapefruit juice, and tomato juice are just a few examples. Then there are the foods rich in magnesium and calcium, which are also said to do their part to lower blood pressure levels. Examples of such foods include sardines (with the bones!), broccoli, green beans, tofu, spinach, and legumes.

Make sure that you omit the foods which may cause problems in people with high blood pressure, and try to eat more of the good foods which help lower or prevent high blood pressure. You can help lower the risk of developing undesirable medical conditions caused by high blood pressure if you only take care of yourself. Use these tips and ideas, and you'll effectively reduce your risk of having a heart attack or stroke related to high blood pressure.
